Sent packages status

Since we published the previous update (#37) at the end of December, in which we gave several options for financing the shipping, about 60 backers have made a donation or some additional purchase. We have already sent almost all those packages, where we have included a Hovercraft Tank gift. There are still a few packages left to send, for which we have only recently got confirmation of the shipping address or we still haven't got a response.

There was a lot of work for preparing and sending these packages. We are aware that it is not easy to calculate the weight of the ordered goods and the shipping costs, so we exchanged several emails with most backers before sending the package. In addition, the packing process is slow because the boxes are of different sizes so it's not easy to fit into a regular geometric whole. When packing some smaller items (additional pieces, info cards, monsters, ...) and smaller boxes (Airborne expansion, Special Pieces, ...) we put them inside larger boxes. This reduces the total volume of the package. After receiving the package, backers should carefully open each box because not all items are visible right away.

Some backers paid a higher amount than needed to send their package, so we used that money to send several packages to backers who did not donate anything. Judging by the comments that have been published so far on this Kickstarter page and on BGG, we see that the backers are satisfied with the quality of the games and expansions they received. We are still waiting for comments related to the gameplay and we believe that they will be positive.

Now we have to devote ourselves to preparing the packages to send to the backers from the Urban Battle project, because we postponed it in order to process the donations and additional orders for this project.

Everything we wrote in updates #36 and #37 still applies - everyone who makes a donation or additional purchase in the next period will receive their package in a short time.

Due to the large amount of work involved in preparing the packages for shipping, we have not yet completed the PnP files. We will send backers those files when they are finished.

As for the STL files of the new 3D obstacles, we will send them for free to all backers who have donated or bought additional items, we just need some more time to prepare them.

Sale of the surplus copies of the game

Many backers have donated or helped by purchasing additional items, which significantly contributes to realization of this project and we are thankful for that. But for the remaining packages that are not yet sent, it is on us to acquire funds for shipping costs. The easiest way is to start selling surplus Tank Chess copies and expansions on our website. We emphasize, it would not be a sale of games and expansions that we produced for backers - but a sale of surplus. We have made 150 to 300 more copies of each variant of the Tank Chess game and expansions than the number preordered. We will soon add the new products on our website (TC Extended, Fun Set Plus, Airborne, Special Pieces, Storage box). We don't expect significant results in sales on our website, considering that we don't have any significant promotion. In addition, there is also the possibility of selling them through a couple of retailers that we collaborate with. In any case, we will use the money we collect in this way to send packages to the backers of the "Tank Chess (reprint)" project.

Backers who have already received their packages can help the games to sell faster by writing some comments on social networks (BGG and others) that would affirm the qualities of Tank Chess and its expansions.

Tank Chess on Screentop.gg

One of the Tank Chess fans, Edouard Lorenceau, has made a significant contribution to the development and popularization of this game since the first campaign on Kickstarter (2017). He now made an implementation of Tank Chess on Screentop.gg - a site that enables playing games in a browser, either on mobile or PC/Mac, without need to create an account. Simply create a game, send the link to a friend, and start playing! You can find the game here:

Proposed solutions for financing shipping

As we announced in the previous update, we are now showing the options for financing shipping of packages. It took us a long time to prepare this update, as it was needed to adapt everything to different package weights and various options.

We have provided two ways how backers can help financing the shipping:

1. Donations

2. Additional orders of games, expansions and add-ons that we have in stock

Gift: Hovercraft Tank

We decided to give a symbolic gift to all backers who donate or order some additional items. The gift contains 4 Hovercraft Tank pieces (2 white + 2 black) with two info cards, in a zip bag.

The inspiration is Soviet project for "amphibious hover tank" from 1937:

Its characteristics in the game are the following:

It can move over water like amphibians, but it can also move over mud without losing speed and over landmines without activating them.

1. DONATIONS

We were explaining the causes of our financial problems in the previous updates. We are responsible for some mistakes in managing projects, but there were other objective factors that influenced the situation. Many backers recognize our devotion to push through this project and want to help by donating which would finance the shipping of their packages. The donations can be made in two ways:

A) On our website

This way it is only possible to pay via PayPal, in euros.

B) On BackerKit

We are using the pre-order page from one of our fulfilled projects (Carom Golf) as a platform for these additional payments. The prices here are in USD, and payment is done with payment cards.

Donation level depending on package weight

Since not all packages are of the same weight, the shipping costs are different. To calculate the total package weight, add the weights of the items you ordered, as shown here:

Below is a list of shipping costs per weight. By paying the sufficient amount, you enable your package to be shipped in a couple of days (after confirming the address).

There is a significant jump in shipping costs for packages over 5kg:

Example 1: You had ordered Tank Chess Extended and Fun Set Plus. The total weight is 1.1kg + 0.5kg = 1.6kg. The shipping costs for a package of up to 2kg is €42 / $46.

Example 2: You had backed "All-in-one" pledge level and you have Airborne expansion as a gift. The total weight is: 0.5kg (Portable) + 1.0kg (Standard) + 1.1kg (Extended) + 0.5kg (Fun Set) + 0.5kg (Fun Set Plus) + 0.8kg (Central Square) + 0.1kg (Airborne) = 4.5kg. The shipping costs for up to 4.5kg is €62 / $68.

2. Additional orders

We believe that many backers will choose this option, because we have a rich offer so everyone can find something to their taste. All items we offer are at a significantly lower price compared to current or planned retail prices on our website.

Ordering additional items is only available on:

BackerKit

(additional items are not available on our website because of bookkeeping - all purchases must be followed by an invoice and cannot be combined with Kickstarter rewards in the same package as reward items are treated differently in paperwork)

In this case it is a bit more complex to determine the payment amount needed to send the package, because the weight of additional items also increases shipping costs. To account for this, we have included the shipping fee difference in the price of each new item (4.5 USD per 0.5kg).

Example 3: You had ordered Tank Chess (standard), Fun Set, Fun Set Plus, Special Pieces, and additional board 24x24. The total weight of those items is 1.0 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.1 + 0.5 = 2.6kg. Therefore, buying items of total value of $55 (not including shipping fee difference) would cover the shipping costs, e.g. "Panzer Strike: Western Front 1" (with the price of $56, + $27 for additional package weight, which is in total $83).

Items in offer

- Tank Chess - we have all of these items in stock.

- 3D obstacles - this is something new that we offer for the first time. We don't have these in stock, and we will 3D-print as many as ordered. The printing may last for a few days or weeks depending on the number of orders. Packages containing 3D obstacles will be sent successively, as each set is completed.

- Panzer Strike: Western Front - we only recently completed the production of PS:WF2 and now we have added them on our website for regular sale. We have around 170 PS:WF1 and 80 PS:WF2 in stock, and they will no longer be produced, because it is not profitable for us as publishers because of complicated production. So, this is an opportunity to order these games at a large discount compared to the retail price on our website.

PS:WF1 and PS:WF2 are offered individually and as a bundle (at an additional discount).

PS:WF1 board can be used for playing with Tank Chess rules, and we will include a paper showing initial position of pieces.

- Urban Battle - our latest Kickstarter project. The production of all games from that project is almost finished. Everything would have been finished two months ago, but we prioritized the completion of all games and expansions of the "TC (reprint)" project, which took us longer than expected.

UB is a game that took the best elements from the rules of our other tank games. It has three different game modes, allowing players to choose between a more realistic gameplay, or an abstract strategy similar to Tank Chess.

Backers who order these games now will most likely receive their packages in January or February.

- Age of Dogfights - we offer AoD1 with all expansions and AoD2 only the basic game. We have everything in stock.

- Other games that we have in stock.

Notification about donation / additional order

Backers who donate or order additional items should send us an email to [email protected] to inform us about it (otherwise we may miss it). Also, at that opportunity, it would be good to write your shipping address (including phone number) to confirm it, because we would need to check in any case (to avoid package getting lost), and by doing so you save us some time with preparing your package.

Package shipping rate

Everyone who makes a donation will receive their package very quickly after confirming their address. As for additional orders, the time before shipping depends on whether we already have those items in stock or some time is needed to produce them.

Backers who are unwilling or unable to make additional payments will still receive their packages. Once we have a look at how many backers will make donations or buy more items, we will publish a new update with a plan for funding the shipping of the remaining packages.

We hope that a large number of backers will choose one of the two options offered. With many difficulties and delays, we have finally completed the production during which we tried to make every element the best we can. Now we are really close to fulfilling the project and we can't push through it alone. And the game itself certainly has quality, as backers will soon be able to see for themselves.

P.S. We have to point out one problem that exists related to sending packages to Germany. Out of the last 5-6 packages we sent there, for three, German Customs asked the recipient to pay some additional fees. Allegedly, the accompanying documents with the package were not complete. This is not true, we have been sending packages for years and we are filling out the papers according to the form we received from UPS. The unofficial explanation we received from UPS is that Germany has introduced some fees outside the agreements and regulations that apply in the EU, with an excuse that some papers are missing. So, this is a problem that we cannot influence. There might be a possibility to organize shipping to Germany through Slovenia, but we may be able to realize that option in February at the earliest.

Completion of production

It took us more time than we announced in the previous update, but we managed to finally finish the production of all the elements for all the standard variants of Tank Chess and the accompanying expansions. All graphic elements are printed, all pieces are molded or 3D printed and packed in zip bags. Pieces for the Pocket and Deluxe variant of the game will be 3D printed in the coming period. As always, we have produced components for many more games / expansions than were ordered during the Kickstarter campaign.

The rules for Airborne and Special Pieces have received significant improvements compared to what we presented in the last update. We also made some changes to the info cards for Fun Set Plus, Airborne and Special Pieces. Although we are behind schedule with the realization of this project, we still did our best to make all the elements properly. As authors, we are very satisfied with the work done, especially with the latest board setups in new expansions. We tried to create very diverse setups designed in such a way to emphasize characteristics of specific pieces.

Although all graphic elements have been printed, the Print and Play files are not ready yet. We need some time to make those files (there is more work to adapt the files for the PnP), but we will now focus on shipping packages, so the creation of the PnP files will be delayed for a few weeks.

This campaign had the word "reprint" in its name. But basically it had a lot more new titles to make than the ones that were just reprints. Out of the 8 titles only one (Central Square expansion) was a pure reprint. Two titles (basic game and Fun Set expansion) have received a new rulebook and brochure, and info cards have been added. And as many as five titles are completely new: Tank Chess Portable, Tank Chess Extended, Fun Set Plus, Airborne expansion and Special Pieces.

The following photos show the elements produced that weren't shown in the previous updates.

In the coming days, we will prepare a new update in which all options for financing the shipping will be explained in detail. Before shipping, addresses will be checked by email so if there are any changes there will be an opportunity to update the shipping address.

One of the options for financing the sending of packages is a pure donation. Everything will be explained in detail in that update. Depending on the weight of the package being sent, we will give minimum donation values. Packages will be sent to backers who make a donation right away (after confirming the address).

Another option for funding shipping packages is to purchase some of the additional games, expansions, or add-ons that Forsage Games has to offer. Everything will be shown and explained in detail in the next update. We already have the majority of items in stock, and for some it may take a few days or weeks to complete. Everything will be precisely listed for each item.

We have also prepared something new that we think will be interesting for many backers. In the following photos, we show the 3D obstacles we made. Compared to the standard obstacles that are made of cardboard or thin plastic, these ones are visually more appealing (e.g. high obstacles are actually tall) and more convenient to set up.

Backers from this project who paid for a physical copy of the Urban Battle game during the campaign in April this year will not have to pay anything extra, everything will be sent to them in one package. We will most likely send those packages in the second half of December.

Backers who can't or don't want to pay anything extra will have to wait a bit for their packages. After we see how many backers will make donations or buy something from our stock, we will make a new update in which we will consider options for sending the remaining packages.

For the end, some nice news. In some earlier posts, we mentioned that interest and development of domestic board games started in Serbia only a few years ago. Back in 1996, I (Predrag) was the first author from Serbia who published a board game - Saratoga. Only a few years ago, a group of young creators founded the Serbian Tabletop Guild - STG. They organized the selection for the game of the year 2024 in several categories. We submitted Tank Chess and it received the award for Best Strategy Game of the Year :-).

When we announced in the previous update that we intend to launch a new campaign on Kickstarter (Air Cargo Transport) in order to ensure our company's liquidity, your reactions were very negative. That is why we soon announced in the comments that we are giving up the new campaign until further notice.

To avoid declaring bankruptcy and giving up on delivering packages to all backers, we had to make some drastic reductions, which will affect our business and ourselves in the following years. We won't write about any details, because instead we want to direct our energy to completing the ordered games and expansions.

Before showing the progress made in this project, we would like to mention that our last Kickstarter project – Urban Battle – will be realized ahead of schedule (more details in the project update)

In the past month, we have devoted ourselves to completing the production of late projects, first giving priority to the Tank Chess (reprint) project over Age of Dogfights WWII, because there is less work left to be done.

Photos below show that the production of all game elements and expansions from this project is almost finished. The process of sending packages to backers will continue soon. We announced earlier that we don't have the money to send all the packages. There are several options for financing shipping costs for those packages:

1. Everyone who backed a physical game in the Urban Battle project will receive that game and everything they ordered in the Tank Chess reprint project in one package (without any additional payment).

2. In the past period, some backers declared that they would like to donate money for postage. We will create a page on our website for donations, and we will write more details about it in the next update. Therefore, anyone who makes a donation of a certain amount will receive their orders right away.

3. We will offer other of our games, expansions and add-ons that backers will be able to buy, enabling us to send them everything they ordered in this project together with the additional items.

4. For backers who don't want to make any additional payment, we will try to find a way to finance sending the package ourselves, but it will take some time.

We show photos of the produced elements for all games and expansions from this project. All the rules and all the brochures are written, but some of them need to be translated and graphically arranged. We expect to receive a few more print runs from a print house, but we didn't want to delay the release of this update because of that.

Like the basic game, the "old" Fun Set expansion was initially planned to be just a reprint (with the addition of info cards), but now we have prepared an improved version of the rulebook and brochure for it as well. During the writing of the new version of the rulebook, we re-analyzed the characteristics of all vehicles in detail and made some other changes (in addition to the ones we published in update #26), to make a better balance between different types of pieces.

The Special Pieces set was announced as a small add-on, but it will be closer to the Airborne expansion in content. We've also added one more Armed Off-road vehicle along the way (there will be 2 of each color, instead of 1), so that mini-expansion now contains 18 pieces (instead of 16).

Please note that all games and expansions are produced in a larger number than ordered.

As you can see from the text and photos, a big step has been made towards the end of production. We intend to continue to devote ourselves fully to finalization of the project. Posting updates and responding to comments will not be a priority for us right now, as it takes up too much of the time we need for particular work on projects.

As we have announced in the last few updates, we are in a difficult situation, but we are trying to send all the remaining packages in the coming period. In order to be able to fulfill our obligations, it is imperative that we keep the Forsage Games company liquid. The most obvious reason is that we as a company have a contract with UPS to send packages at relatively favorable prices. Otherwise, sending packages would be too expensive and unfeasible. Therefore, maintaining the liquidity of the company is a priority for us at the moment.

Our previous Kickstarter project (the board game Urban Battle) did not raise significant funds ($12000 on Kickstarter + $3000 on BackerKit). At the beginning of the campaign, we promised that this project would be completed on time or earlier. We are keeping that promise, the entire production of the Urban Battle games will soon be finished (several months ahead of schedule). After the production is complete, we will send packages to all backers.

The money raised in that campaign (Urban Battle) has provided work for our company in the past two months. In order to maintain liquidity for the coming period, we are forced to launch another campaign soon - it is a board game called Air Cargo Transport.

At this moment, this campaign is needed for our company's survival. We hope that its success would give us, the authors, time to devote to projects where we have a delay in sending packages.

The current status of the "Tank Chess reprint" project is that part of the packages have already been sent (to those backers who ordered only the basic game and Portable). There are only a few elements left that need to be produced to complete all other variants of the game and the expansions. We mostly have the materials for that, but the problem is that we have run out of money to send the packages.

In the AoD:WWII project, we asked backers for monetary donations to continue the process of sending the packages, and that is working for now. In that project, asking for donations is justified, because the game has become significantly richer and more expensive due to the volume of work invested and additional elements. But there is an alternative option: to order some additional expansions, after which we immediately send the package. It is a much more complex and extensive project that contains as many as 8 expansions (last year we added 3 more "thematic expansions", so there are 11 in total) and many different add-ons, and in which it was planned from the start that the packages would be sent in two waves.

We, the authors, are currently trying to avoid asking for donations from you, the backers of this project. In the previous update, we announced that we have a plan to fully fulfill our obligations to the backers of the "Tank Chess reprint" project. We did not provide any details, because we believe that a partial presentation of the plan (without visuals) would be counter-productive.

However, we believe that further delaying the publication of that plan would not be correct, and now we will try to present only its outlines in a short way:

In the Tank Chess project, we have so far offered the Standard edition (which contains two boards 16×16 and 20×20 squares), Portable (board 12×12) and Extended (board 24×24). Together with several expansions (Fun Set, Fun Set Plus, Airborne) this game has over 30 different types of tank pieces and a dozen different types of obstacles. The basic game on its own, and especially in combination with expansions, provides an incredible number of modifications and the possibility to play completely different games for many years. With that said, one can come to the conclusion that there is no room for further development of this game.

However, while working on the Urban Battle project, we got an idea for a whole series of "special editions" of Tank Chess (for now we will call them that way, we will announce the real name of those editions soon). These are not expansions, but new stand-alone editions of the game. This idea did not arise from the need to make anything new so we could have something to offer backers, on the contrary, we believe this is a strategic direction for the further development of this game, which will have several separate Kickstarter campaigns in the coming years. We are sure that this series will increase the popularity of this game.

So far, we have concepts for as many as 15 different titles of these "special editions". Of course we can't finish them all at once, but the plan is to do 3 to 4 titles in the first round. We can do that job in 5 to 6 weeks. But, I emphasize, the current priority is the coming campaign for the Air Cargo Transport game. We should then finish production of expansions already ordered during the 2023 campaign (which will take 2 to 3 weeks). Only then can we devote ourselves to work on these "special editions". When we starting working on it, we will publish an update with more information.

The concrete realization of that plan would look like this: first, we would make prototypes and present 3 to 4 titles. Then we would open a new pre-order page on the BackerKit platform. Then, the process of ordering, production and sending the packages would run in parallel, which should take 6 to 10 weeks. Any backer who decides to pay for at least one copy of one of the offered "special editions" would receive a package with that game and everything they ordered during the 2023 campaign within 7 to 10 days (similar to the current process in Age of Dogfights: WWII project). We are aware that there are those among you who will not want to pay anything extra, but we also believe that there will be those who will order 2 or more titles, which will provide the money to send all the remaining packages.

At first reading, all this may seem unrealistic, but we are sure that the full presentation of those "special editions" will change your mind and that most backers will follow our plan.

Since we cannot work on several projects at the same time, we are currently focused on starting the campaign for the game Air Cargo Transport. We hope that some of you will support our new project, thereby contributing to our faster financial recovery.
